BBMP plans to digitise registration of OFCs
In a bid bring some order into the chaos spread by optical fibers lying all around city roads and pavements, the BBMP has decided to digitise the process involved in procuring permit for installation of Optical Fiber Cables (OFC).
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is currently working on the platforms and procedure for this. It aims to avoid human error and manual work involved in issuing permit to the OFC operators and also minimise violations by OFC operators.
According to BBMP, the new digital platform will allow the OFC operators to apply for the licence online and upload their registration documents and raise the request for the permission for the identified stretch. Once the documents are uploaded and the request is raised, the BBMP will verify and allot the space needed for the work. So OFC operators and officials can avoid a visit to the BBMP to procure licence for installing the OFC cables
Currently, the OFC operators have to visit the BBMP with the required documents to obtain the permission for the installation of OFC cables and the process takes around two weeks.
An official from BBMP said, “We are developing this platform and prioritising the necessary specification in the process. With this, we can avoid human interventions, errors and also violations from the OFC operators. Though there are rules in the matter, it could not be followed due to the time constraint. This online application process will help both BBMP and OFC operators save time.”
The BBMP had recently removed more than 250-km-long OFC cables 250 km that were not inside the ducts along the TenderSure and other roads.
